On the final night of the Sydney International Open this year we were travelling to the fine residence of Dr. Charles Zworestine where, like many times before, we would be the recipients of his fine hospitality before we headed home the next day. Our conversation turned to the sad demise of the Australasian Chess Magazine and we lamented the lack of a forum for Australian chess players, particularly young ones, to write about the game they love, and for chess enthusiasts to read a quality, home-grown publication. And so, on the night of 27 April 2014, 50 Moves was born.
Welcome to the first issue of 50 Moves Magazine! We’re delighted that you’ve subscribed and hope that you’ll enjoy reading the first issue and maybe learn something new about chess on the way.
Our team of contributors has put in a brilliant effort (for free!) to help us get started. We were really blown away by the time and care each one of them put in to create some fantastic articles. So to our regular contributors Ian Rogers, Guy West, Max Illingworth, Junta Ikeda, Chris Wallis and Andrew Brown; our guest contributors Kevin Bonham, Bill Kerr and Igor Bjelbork; and our team of photographers Cathy Rogers, Alana Chibnall, Elliot Renzies, Kerry Stead, Leonid Sander and Jamie Kenmure, we’d like to say a very big thank you!
Once again, we hope you enjoy our new magazine about the game we all love.
